The Layout

It’s the first Scrapbook Live of the month, and that means it’s time to create my monthly page! Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year? Time is flying!

For this layout, I wanted something with a flexible background that could work with a variety of themes, and I was reminded of a design I created a couple of years ago for the Copper Canyon collection—part of one of our Secret Boxes. It’s a simple yet striking layout that features layered triangles, and what really elevates it is the addition of a punched edge on one of the triangles. It’s a great example of how a small detail—like a decorative edge—can make a big impact. Plus, I always love an excuse to pull out my border maker cartridges!

For today’s demo, I’ll be using the Noteworthy collection along with the Cyclic Circles BMC. But don’t worry if you don’t have that exact cartridge—you can substitute any knockout or edge-style BMC for a similar look. Or, if you prefer, keep your triangle pieces solid and layer a chain-style border on top for added dimension. Lots of options to make it your own!

One tip if you’re using the original handout: the cut guide refers to very specific papers from the Copper Canyon collection. If you’re using a different collection (like I am), you’ll want to start with four 10″ x 6″ rectangles from papers that coordinate well together. I’ll be following that approach during the demo to show how easy it is to customize this layout with what you have on hand!
