The Layout
Don’t be fooled by first impressions! At first glance, this layout looks like it’s made from four large triangles framing a big central mat. Naturally, I was reaching for my 18″ ruler and rotary trimmer, ready to measure and slice some serious angles. But then I actually read the instructions—what a concept! ?
To my surprise, it starts with four 1 x 12″ paper strips. I was convinced it had to be a typo… but nope! I looked again and suddenly it all made sense—DUH! This technique isn’t just clever; it’s way more paper-efficient than cutting large, angled pieces. It’s also a method I’ve used before to create frames around layouts, but I’ve never thought to layer patterned paper in the middle like this.
Such a fun reminder that sometimes the simplest cuts create the most impressive illusions—and that reading the directions first isn’t such a bad idea after all!
For my demo layout, I used the retired paper packs, Serene Waters and Weaving Waves Texture Pack. I selected blue cardstock and orange shimmer paper as accents. I just need to do a bit of journaling – these images showcase Cody’s first jump into the pool for the 2025 swim season!
