Converting 12×12 sketches to work in the Scrap Journal

If you’ve been around Creative Memories for a while, you might be familiar with the Happy Album — a smaller-sized scrapbook introduced in 2018 that was perfect for quick projects, daily documentation, or themed mini albums. Well, it’s gotten a little makeover! CM has officially renamed it the Scrap Journal and launched several fresh new cover colors that are absolutely gorgeous. Even better? They’ve introduced Spargo album pages — a beautiful, soft neutral that’s perfect for showcasing colorful layouts and decorative elements. It’s a clean canvas that plays well with everything!
This week during Scrapbook Live, I’ll be diving into how to convert a traditional 12×12 scrapbook sketch down to the Scrap Journal size, which measures 6.75 x 10 inches. I’ll be working with two sketches from the Creative Memories Blog and showing you exactly how to resize them to fit the new dimensions.
To make things easier, I’ll be referencing a measurement conversion chart I first introduced back in March 2024 — but don’t worry, it’s been updated! The new version includes a quick guide to help you convert common 12×12 photo sizes (like 4×6 or 3×4) into Scrap Journal-friendly sizes.
That said, don’t feel limited by the measurements. If a sketch inspires you, focus on the background layout and substitute in whatever photo sizes work best for your project. It’s all about adapting the design to work for you.
So, grab your Scrap Journal, Spargo pages, and your favorite tools, and join me live — let’s shrink down those sketches and get creative!
