FAQ

Should I choose a studio session or an on-location session?

Selection of a studio or on-location session depends on what “look” you’d like to achieve with your portraits. Studio portraits are generally viewed as more clean and classic, while on-location sessions are considered more spontaneous and casual. With both styles of sessions we capture a combination of posed and candid images, depending on what you prefer. Maternity and newborn sessions are generally held in studio where we can control the lighting and the temperature where as sessions with older toddlers and kids may be held on-location. We generally do not recommend outdoor sessions during the months of May through September due to the heat.

What is the best time of day to schedule an on-location session?

Outdoor images are best taken close to sunrise and sunset, so the times vary throughout the year. Whether a sunrise or sunset session is best depends largely on the location selected for portraits – Anthem Park north of Phoenix receives the best lighting at sunset, where as a few of our favorite locations in Scottsdale work better in the morning.

If you would like to have a session at your home, the best time to do the session is when your home is the brightest inside, which varies depending on the direction your house faces.

What should I wear for a portrait session?

Simple is best! The classic combination of a dark, solid shirt with a pair of jeans or dark slacks works well for all types of sessions. Upon booking your session you will be given additional details how to prepare for your specific type of session (i.e. maternity, newborn, family, etc.) For more on what to wear for a family session – please click this link to view a great article.

I love B&W images, but my husband prefers color, do we have a choice?

All images are taken and presented in color, but may be previewed and ordered in either color, black & white or sepia tone. Within the online ordering gallery you will have the ability to look at and compare the various color style options. If you are certain that you only want B&W images, we will be happy to present only B&W images during the ordering process.
