Scrapbook Live – Resizing Layout Sketches

Sketch Measurement Conversions

One of the questions I get asked most often is, “How do I convert a 12×12 sketch into a different size scrapbook page?” If you’ve ever tried to resize a layout, you know it can be tricky figuring out the new measurements while keeping the overall design balanced. That’s why I’m excited to dive into this topic during this week’s Scrapbook Live!

I’ll be walking you through how to take a 12×12 sketch and adapt it for other page sizes, like 8.5×11, 8×8 and Scrap Journal (6.75 x 10″) albums. To make this easier, I’ll be sharing a handy conversion chart that does the math for you—because no one wants to spend their crafting time stuck with a calculator!

For this lesson, I’ll be using sketches from Creative Memories’ March 2024 Virtual Crop. If you participated in that crop, grab the PDF handout with the sketches so you can follow along. I also recommend printing the conversion chart handout linked below, so you can reference it while we work through the examples.

During the video, I’ll show you exactly how to use the chart to quickly determine the new measurements for your photos, mats, and paper pieces. I’ll also demonstrate several examples so you can see how the adjusted layouts come together in real life.

Whether you’re creating for a smaller album or simply want to mix up your page sizes, this resource will make resizing sketches so much easier—and hopefully take the headache out of measurement conversions once and for all! Be sure to watch the video below for all the tips and tricks.
