The Project
In summer 2023, Noreen with Creative Memories shared a cut guide designed for the 6-3/4″ x 10″ Scrap Journal. I adore the Scrap Journal size, but since most of my scrapbooking is 12×12, I decided to adapt the idea and create a cut guide specifically for 12×12 papers! This cut guide creates seven 2-page scrapbook layouts that mimic the designs shared in the original Creative Memories handout. The page designs are simple but effective, with suggested photo sizes and placement that you can easily adjust to fit your own photos.
Think of these layouts as a starting point! There is plenty of room to personalize the pages with borders, embellishment clusters, journal boxes and other details. And if you have more photos than the layouts allow, Peekaboo Pockets are always a great option for squeezing in a few extras.
The Photos I’m Scrapbooking
I recently returned from a whirlwind three-day trip to San Diego with my husband and 9-year-old. We spent one day at the San Diego Zoo, our second day exploring the maritime attractions along the waterfront, and our final day at the San Diego Safari Park.
For this Scrapbook Live series, I’m working on photos from the morning of our second day, when we visited the Maritime Museum and took a tour of San Diego Bay. We toured several historic ships, and I have SO many photos that I’m pretty sure I’ll have no trouble filling all seven layouts!
I’m using the retired Seaside Designer Paper Pack for these pages, along with coordinating cardstock and tonal papers.
Follow Along with the 3-Part Video Series
This is a three-part Scrapbook Live series:
- In Part 1, I work through the cut guide and assemble the base pages.
- In Parts 2 and 3, I add my photos to the layouts and talk through the embellishments and finishing touches I’m adding along the way.
You can use the same process with papers and photos from your own stash—the cut guide gives you the framework, and you can customize the finished layouts to fit whatever story you’re scrapbooking.
Supplies
- 7 double-sided papers – I recommend starting with 10 or so papers so you have some options to choose from. I talk about paper selection at the beginning of the first video.
- 14 sheets of cardstock, tonal paper or base album pages – The cut guide shows you how to cut the seven patterned papers to create the background designs, but you’ll still need something to serve as the actual base for each page.
