Revisiting a Creative Memories Holiday Scrapbook Layout
When it comes to scrapbooking, I love revisiting past projects and giving them a fresh spin. For this week’s Scrapbook Live, I thought it would be fun to look back at some Christmas scrapbook layouts that were originally shared on the Creative Memories Blog. One project from October 2019 immediately caught my eye. It featured the Merry Little Christmas collection, which remains one of my favorite holiday scrapbook sets. I loved how the designers paired deep charcoal with bright white and layered in the classic red and green tones for that cheerful, festive look.
But if you know me, you know I rarely follow directions exactly. I enjoy using the blog projects as a starting point and then adapting them with my own twist. In true Scrapbook Live fashion, I didn’t reach for a Christmas collection at all. Instead, I dug into my printed photos and found a set from 2007 that I have been meaning to scrapbook for ages. These pictures were from a trip my oldest son took with my parents to Sedona, Arizona. The red rock scenery, rustic desert colors, and sense of adventure were a perfect match for the Leave Nothing Behind collection from Creative Memories.
Although Leave Nothing Behind has since been retired, it remains one of those collections that works beautifully for travel pages. The earthy palette of warm browns, muted greens, and sandy tones captured the Sedona landscape perfectly. It felt so rewarding to finally get these older photos onto a page, and I love how the finished design reflects both the trip’s natural beauty and the bond between my son and his grandparents.
Adding Extra Photos with Peekaboo Pockets
Another fun element of this layout was finding a way to include more photos than the original design allowed. The 2019 project featured space for three images, but I had printed quite a few from this trip and wanted to showcase as many as possible. Enter one of my favorite Creative Memories products —6×12? Peekaboo Pockets. These handy little pockets adhere right onto the page protector and flip open like a mini album.
By adding Peekaboo Pockets, I was able to expand the layout to hold five additional photos without losing the fun layout design. They were the perfect solution for capturing all the details of the Sedona adventure, from scenic rock formations to sweet candid moments of my son exploring with my parents. Peekaboo Pockets are a must-have if you want to fit more memories into your albums while keeping everything cohesive.
Watch the Video for Full Inspiration
If you’re curious to see how this project came together, be sure to watch the full Scrapbook Live video tutorial (below). You’ll get a closer look at how I adapted the original Christmas layout idea, swapped in a travel-themed collection, and layered in Peekaboo Pockets for extra photo capacity. Even though this layout started with holiday inspiration, it shows how versatile Creative Memories sketches can be when you match them with the right papers for your story.
Whether you’re scrapbooking holiday traditions, family vacations, or everyday memories, adapting older blog layouts is a great way to spark creativity and get more photos into your albums.
