Sunlit Border Punch – I just can’t get enough!
Sometimes the best techniques come from just messing around at the craft table with no particular plan. I picked up the Sunlit Border Punch one afternoon, started playing with some coordinating papers, and ended up with a two-tone border that I just knew I had to share with you!
You might remember the technique where you fold your paper before punching to create a full, symmetrical sun border — we have done that one before, and it is such a good one. This week we are bringing it back AND taking it a step further.
Here’s the fun part: you will punch a second full sun border, cut it into segments, and then cut each of those segments on the diagonal. Those smaller pieces layer right on top of your original border to create a gorgeous two-tone look that adds so much depth and dimension. It is detailed enough to look impressive but totally achievable — I promise!
This technique looks AMAZING with the Chasing the Sun collection, but it will work beautifully with any fun summer collection you already have in your stash. And I will also be sharing how to pull the whole thing into a layout — including a little trick where I use ink to darken the edges of Canary cardstock to give it a more intense yellow that pairs perfectly with bright, bold summer photos.
A quick note on paper choice: For this score/fold/punch technique, you will want to use designer paper or lightweight shimmer paper — NOT cardstock. Because we are folding before punching, cardstock is just a little too tough on your border punches. Designer paper and shimmer paper fold cleanly and punch beautifully, so stick with those!
