Scrapbook Live: Put Your Border Cutting Tools to Work with This Two-Page Layout

Older Designs Remade with New Tools

If you have the Creative Memories Custom Cutting System (CCS) Border Cutting Tools sitting in your craft room, this week’s Scrapbook Live is YOUR session.

I’ve been revisiting some layouts I originally made with the 12-inch Decorative Trimmer — which is now retired — and figuring out how to recreate them using the CCS Border Cutting Tools. This is such a FUN way to start experimenting with these newer tools if you haven’t explored them yet.

This week I’m replicating a layout from the May 2022 Power Hour class, and I’ll be using the zigzag edge from the BCT Set #1 to get the look. But here’s what I really want you to take away from this session: there are now four Border Cutting Tool templates with two edges each — that’s eight different edge options to play with. This is your invitation to grab the one you like best, or maybe one you’ve never tried before, and just experiment.

SHOP:

One thing to keep in mind when you’re pulling paper for this technique: you want a designer paper that has a clear contrast between the front and the back. Because we’re using BOTH sides. When there’s a nice visual separation between the two patterns or colors, the design really pops. So, flip your paper over and take a look before you commit!

What you’ll need

That last one is important — if you’ve never used the Border Cutting Tools before, please practice first! A cover sheet or an “ugly” piece of paper works perfectly.

For my class demo I used 2 sheets of Dark Sea Green cardstock, the rainbow stripe paper from the On the Bright Side Designer Paper Pack and the Crest Edge of the Border Cutting Tools.
