Got scraps? This is the layout for you!

This week’s Scrapbook Live is features a layout that first appeared on the Creative Memories blog in 2022 and I’ll admit, I have no idea how this one escaped my attention for so long! As soon as I came across it, I knew it deserved a second look because it has one of my favorite qualities in a scrapbook layout: it’s very scrap-friendly.

The blog sample uses 1 x 12″ strips to create the look, but since there is a large piece of paper placed in the middle of the page, covering up much of those strips, we’ll explore an alternate way to recreate the design using only scraps of paper. It’s always a delight to dig into my stash and use up those pieces I’ve been hanging onto because they seemed just a little too useful to throw away.

We’ll also talk about thinking beyond traditional scraps. Those leftover pieces from photo mats are often the perfect width for a design like this, and border maker cartridge strips can work beautifully as well. While the original layout uses strips that are all the same 1″ height, don’t feel like you have to follow that exactly. Mixing different strip heights can give the layout a completely different personality while still maintaining the overall design.

The original layout was created with the Leave Nothing Behind collection, one of my all-time favorite Creative Memories collections inspired by our National Parks. Although I won’t be recreating it with those exact papers, the design is timeless and works with just about any collection you already have in your stash.

Join me live tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29, at 3pm ET / 12pm PT on Facebook as we give this Creative Memories layout a fresh twist and put those scraps to good use. Whether your scraps have been patiently waiting in a bin or tucked away with your paper packs, this is a great opportunity to turn those leftovers into something you’ll love.

One quick scheduling note: this is our final Wednesday Scrapbook Live for the summer. Beginning next week, Scrapbook Live will return to its regular Friday schedule as Cody heads back to school. Our first Friday episode will be on August 7, and I’m looking forward to getting back into that routine with all of you!
